Anna Haugh and Romy Gill among lineup for Ready Steady Cook reboot
Celebrity MasterChef finalist Rylan Clark-Neal will host the new iteration of the show, which the BBC says will ‘offer up fresh challenges to put the next generation of chefs through their culinary paces’.
The return of the popular teatime cooking show, which was once a staple of the BBC primetime schedule, was first mooted back in May with former host Ainsley Harriott saying he was in talks to bring the concept back.
While Harriott doesn’t appear to be involved in the new series, the structure of the show will ostensibly remain true to the original format.
As before, each episode will feature two members of the public who will be individually paired with a professional chef to form a team – designated as either a ‘Red Tomato’ or a ‘Green Pepper’.
Using a bag of ingredients bought by the contestants on a £10 budget, each chef will then have 20 minutes to create and cook a bespoke meal with the winning dish decided on by an audience vote.
A revamped second challenge will then follow, in which each pair has 10 minutes to create a dish using ingredients also decided on by the audience.
Alongside Haugh, Reid and Gill, chefs Akis Petretzikis and Ellis Barrie have also been confirmed to appear.
Taking to Instagram, Haugh, who opened her debut restaurant Myrtle in London earlier this year, said: “If someone had told young Anna that she would one day be one of the chefs in #readysteadycook I think she would have run around the TV room with excitement. I’m an adult now so should be more composed *runs around TV room with excitement.”
The original Ready Steady Cook ran on BBC Two for nearly 16 years between 1994 and 2010, and recorded close to 2,000 episodes.
