Richard and Lindsey Johns open The Hovingham Inn pub
The couple have taken on the former Malt Shovel pub in the village of Hovingham, which relaunched last month following a complete refurbishment.
The Johns’ say “every wire, pipe and plug socket has been replaced” while a new kitchen, bar and dining area has been installed.
Three en-suite bedrooms are being constructed at the pub as part of the next phase of renovations, which is being undertaken in partnership with local property developers Martyn and Mary Greenwood.
Lindsey oversees front of house while Richard is in the kitchen, serving a menu including slow roast pork belly with warm sausage roll, creamed cabbage and bacon, black pudding bon bons and apple puree.
An informal ‘dog-friendly’ bar offers dishes such as hand-made pork pies; and Yorkshire featherblade steak sandwich with caramelised onions and parmesan salad.
The Johns' closed their well-regarded Raskelf restaurant, Rascills, in January this year. The site opened in 2016 and was recommended in both the Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide.
They previously ran the award-winning Artisan restaurant in Hessle from 2004-13.
The couple took on The Falcon Pub in Withernwick in 2014 but left in 2016 to help their friend Andrew Pern set up his York restaurant before opening Rascills.
