Lima London founders Gabriel and Jose-Luis Gonzalez are to launch a Venezuelan-inspired casual dining concept at Westfield London later this month.

Aiming to capture the vibrant spirit of Venezuela’s bustling arepa bar scene, Sabroso (the initial intention was to call it Caracas) has been designed by the brothers to showcase the best of Venezuelan cuisine.

The arepa – a flat, dish shaped cornbread available with a variety of fillings – will be the menu’s signature dish, with fillings set to include shredded chicken with avocado; braised beef served either with cheese or black beans; and plantain.

Side dishes will feature traditional tequeños, crispy cheese pastries served with homemade mango chutney; while dessert options will include tres leches sponge cake soaked in three types of milk, and alfajores shortbread filled with dulche de leche and rolled in coconut.

Diners will also be able to build their own poke-inspired ceviche bowls, prepared with either a rice or quinoa base.

“Jose-Luis and I are so excited to be bringing a taste of Venezuela to the UK,” says Gabriel.

“We’re so proud to come from a country with such a rich food culture. Venezuelan cuisine is increasing in popularity and we hope to see it embraced by the city we love.”

Lima is the brainchild of the Gonzalez brothers and Virgilio Martinez, chef-owner at Central in Peru – which was named the sixth best restaurant in the world earlier this year.

The team opened their second London site, Lima Floral, in 2014.
