The six traders combine local Essex businesses and those from Market Halls’ Victoria and Fulham venues. Burger & Beyond first started trading in Colchester Market and Fundi Pizza was founded by brothers Charlie and Rory Nelson, who hail from Maldon in Essex. They will join a coffee shop, pop-up areas for food trucks and two bars championing British-made beers, spirits and soft drinks at the 14,500sq ft site when it opens next month.
Called The Hall, the intu Lakeside operation is the third venture in the Market Halls group and is part of the shopping centre’s 175,000sq ft leisure extension that launches this year. The group will open a fourth Market Hall near Oxford Circus in the building that was once home to BHS, which it says will become the country’s biggest food hall, followed by a fifth on Crossrail Place in Canary Wharf called Market Halls Cargo.
Market Halls is headed up by CEO Andy Lewis-Pratt, a former property developer and restaurateur Simon Anderson. The pair launched Market Halls in spring 2018, with the aim of redefining the British concept of food halls and turning unloved public spaces with particular architectural or historical interest, public again.
