Casual dining burger and bar brand Wahlburgers is hoping to rapidly expand operations in the UK, BigHospitality’s sister website MCA has learnt.

Following months of delays, the US chain run by chef Paul Wahlberg in partnership with his brothers Mark and Donnie opened its first UK site in London’s Covent Garden last month.

The brand is now looking to expand, with a view to opening 15 restaurants in five years across London and the wider UK.

According to MCA, sites with high footfall are currently being sought, with the former YO! Sushi site on Tottenham Court Road believed to be a potential target.

Having opened three to four sites in London, the company will then target other UK cities such as Manchester and Liverpool.

Wahlburgers isn’t the only US-founded fast food brand currently on the expansion trail in the UK.

Earlier this year BigHospitality reported that Stateside street food chain The Halal Guys was planning to open as many as 20 locations in the next five years, following the launch of its first European site in Leicester Square.

Founded in Massachusetts back in 2011, Wahlburgers comprises more than 25 restaurants and food trucks across the US and Canada.

It also has its own accompanying reality TV show, named Wahlburgers, which is due to end this summer after 10 seasons.
