Huge new food market to open in Bishopsgate next year
Located at 22 Bishopsgate, the ‘next generation work space’ will house what is being described as a ‘first of its kind’, 20,000sq ft food court run by hospitality group Rhubarb and with creative input from The Young British Foodies (YBFs) organisation. As well a various street-food style kiosks and pop-ups that will change on a regular basis the 450-cover space will be home to a restaurant and adjoining terrace and wine bar.
The Market will be located the second floor of 22 Bishopsgate and will only be accessible to the building’s 12,000 strong business community during the day. However, it will open to all members of the public outside business hours and on Saturdays.
The YBFs has been tasked with sourcing a range of operators for the kiosk elements of The Market, sand is said to be ‘working with hotly-tipped culinary stars of the future’ although no names have been revealed so far. In partnership with the YBFs, Rhubarb will oversee the wider culinary offering and management of The Market.
“22 Bishopsgate is creating a permanent platform to incubate concepts from the food and drink stars of the future, which demonstrates a real commitment to supporting emerging talent in the industry,” says Lily Jones, co-founder of The YBFs and founder of Lily Vanilli bakery in east London. “The YBFs looks forward to collaborating with the 22 Bishopsgate team to create a new foodie destination for London.”
The Market is one of a number of planned new ‘food hubs’ for the capital. Italian food hall brand Eataly will open its long-awaited debut UK location next year, also in Bishopsgate.
Time Out Market, meanwhile, is due to open in a 32,500sq ft site split over two floors in Waterloo in 2021.
