Ruth Hansom's Million Pound Menu restaurant no longer going ahead
Ruth Hansom has confirmed her planned restaurant Epoch, which was backed by chef Atul Kochhar on the BBC's My Million Pound Menu, is no longer going ahead.

Hansom and her business partner, sommelier Emily Lambert, secured the prospect of a £750,000 - £1m investment from Kochhar in the 2018 series of the show.

But Hansom told BigHospitality there are currently no plans to develop Epoch and she is instead focusing on her new head chef position at Pomona’s in London’s Notting Hill.

She says: “Since [the show] Emily’s been working with English sparkling wine and Atul opened his own restaurant Kanishka, so it left me in a bit of a strange position of, what am I going to do now? This role at Pomona’s came along and it was something to get my teeth stuck in to.

“Atul is still really supportive of me. You can never say never [to working together in future] as you don’t know what’s going to happen, but Pomona’s is a great opportunity and something I need to put all my energy in to right now.”

Prior to joining Pomona’s on 1 May Hansom was head chef at Luton Hoo hotel in Bedfordshire and previously spent five years at The Ritz. She became the first female winner of Young National Chef of the Year in 2016.

Pomona’s launched as a Californian-inspired restaurant in 2016 but under Hansom has shifted to a focus on ‘relaxed fine dining’ using British produce, with both a la carte and tasting menu options. It recently opened an outside terrace ready for the summer months.
