Street food sandwich outfit Sub Cult is to open its first bricks and mortar site next month on the city’s Watling Street.

The restaurant, which is located next door to Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen, will seat 14 alongside a takeaway counter, with outdoor seating planned over the summer months.

Sub Cult will be serving hot sandwiches made fresh to order using Rinkoff’s U.S. deli-style sub rolls, with the brand’s signature Rodeo (bavette steak with truffle mayo, onion jam, chilli oil and parmesan) and Skandi (oak smoked salmon, cream cheese, beetroot kimchi and dill) subs set to appear on the menu.

With the restaurant being in the area where Queen Boudica is said to have been defeated by the Romans, Sub Cult founders Ben Chancellor and Gareth Phillips have also created a new sandwich in her honour containing slow roasted chicken, smoked ham hock, wild garlic aioli, Wilderbee’s Urban Chilli Honey with a cheddar and chive crumb. Prices will start at £6.

“This really feels like a coming of age moment for the Sub Cult family,” says Chancellor.

“From a humble gazebo to our van to kitchen residencies and shipping containers, to now arrive at this, our first bricks and mortar premises.

“A lot of dreams have been fulfilled with this venture so it’s a pinch yourself moment to be anchoring at such a buzzing spot in ye olde City Of London.”

Founded in 2014 as a street food stall on Berwick Street in Soho, Sub Cult trades at various markets across London including Brockley Market on Saturdays.

Its food has won a number of accolades, including Best Sandwich at the British Street Food Awards.
