Restaurant Eats Out: Covent Garden

From Parisian bistro chic to creative Indian food, Covent Garden and its immediate surrounds has no shortage of interesting places to eat.

Frenchie

The London iteration of Greg Marchand’s chic Paris restaurant is no less stylish or impressive, with its sleek upstairs bar and buzzy downstairs open kitchen. Marchand’s food has a playful character and is influenced by his travels in the UK, US, Spain and Hong Kong. Key dishes include his famous bacon scone, lamb ragu pappardelle and pigs head croquettes.

Serving: Bacon scone, pigshead croquettes, duck foie gras, Yorkshire rhubarb, wild strawberry and pink peppercorn.

Floral by Lima

The younger sibling to Lima, Floral by Lima is owned by Gabriel and Jose Luis Gonzalez is overseen by superstar Peruvian chef Virgilio Martínez Véliz. The upstairs menu is focused on contemporary Peruvian sharing plates while the recently revamped downstairs bar The Lost Alpaca offers innovative cocktails and small plates.

Serving: Ceviche, causa, empanada, alfajores.

Farzi Café

This ‘experimental modern spice bistro’ on Haymarket serves up a playful and modernist take on pan-Indian cuisine and is the creation of high profile Indian restaurateur and Indian MasterChef judge Zorowar Kalra. True to the name, the restaurant deals in plates that are conceived and created in a relaxed manner with dishes including dal chawal arancini; tandoori goat shoulder; and venison Irrachi pepper fry.

Serving: Daal chawal arancini, tandoori goat shoulder, venison Irrachi pepper fry, beef marrow, butter pepper garlic snails, braised lamb chops, butter chicken bao, veal osso bucco.
