Wellbourne Brasserie in White City closes

Located in White City Place, a former BBC-owned building in West London that has been transformed in to restaurant, retail and office space, the brasserie opened at the start of last year. It was the second Wellbourne restaurant from chefs Ross Gibbens and Michael Kennedy, and general manager Martin Irwin, who opened their first restaurant of the same name in Bristol in 2017.

The trio are all former members of Ollie Dabbous’ Fitzrovia restaurant Dabbous.

The restaurant, which opened for breakfast and served an all-day brasserie-style menu that included 1970’s-inspired vol-au-vents, is listed as permanently closed online with its web address no longer linking to the restaurant’s website.

A number of restaurants in the area have struggled or closed, according to Gibbens, who says the team were too early to the location and that trade had been hampered by the proposed theatre not yet up and running.

It follows the closure of Wallfish & Wellbourne Bistro in Bristol, the joint partnership between Wellbourne and Bristol restaurant Wallfish Bistro, which opened at the tail end of last year but closed after less than two month’s trading. The restaurant had been located on the former Wellbourne Bristol site in Clifton Village.

The team also opened Wellbourne Salardu, a winter-season-only restaurant in the Pyrenees town of Salardu, at the end of 2017, but that has also closed

The senior team from Wellbourne have joined riverside restaurant Severnshed in Bristol and is looking to relaunch it later this year.
