Chef restaurateurs Chris and Jeff Galvin’s two restaurants at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian are to close by “mutual agreement” within the next few months.

The high profile brothers opened Galvin Brasserie de Luxe and the more high-end The Pompadour at the hotel when it relaunched under the luxury Waldorf Astoria brand in 2012 following a £24m refurbishment.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank Waldorf Astoria and the owners for their support and the combined efforts on both sides to deliver two award winning restaurants,” reads a statement from Galvin Restaurants.

“Special thanks must also go to all the incredible team members who have been a huge part of our Scottish restaurants over the past seven years.

Dale MacPhee, general manager at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian, thanked the Galvins in a separate statement. “The Galvins have contributed a huge amount of energy and enthusiasm to our two restaurant offerings over the past seven years since we became a Waldorf Astoria property," he said. "However, our arrangement has come to a natural end this year and both parties reviewed this as an opportunity to pursue new directions.

“It is important to keep our offering fresh and innovative in the competitive Edinburgh restaurant scene and we will have a new operator taking over the Brasserie imminently.”

The Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian was sold to Twenty14, the hospitality investment arm of Abu Dhabi-based retail giant Lulu Group, for a reported £85m in early 2018.

The brother's portfolio includes Galvin La Chapelle, Galvin at The Athenaeum and Galvin at Windows in London, Galvin Dubai and Galvin Green Man in Essex.

The pair have a number of new projects in the works, including a partnership with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and a further site in Dubai.
