Basque cookery school Mimo is coming to London
Owners Jon and Nicole Warren will return to the UK after 10 years in San Sebastian, Spain, bringing their hands-on cookery classes, chef’s tables, “progressive food experiences” and market tours to the capital.
The pair have also opened Mimo sites in Seville, Mallorca, and the Algarve over the last three years.
The school, which is scheduled to open on 4 April, will be located at One Cathedral Street.
Basque-born Joseba Lasa, formerly of Urban Caprice, will be head chef and lead cooking classes, wine tastings and other dining activities.
The cooking experiences will range from from in-depth studies of Basque pintxos to lunch hour sessions and classes – all ending with a communal table feast.
Jon started Mimo when he left his London finance job for a new life in Basque Country.
He was inspired by the local tradition of pintxo bars and started leading private tours to visitors looking for an authentic experience.
Jon says: “Mimo is a Spanish word that means love and care which you’d typically give a baby, or a pot of something you are cooking. Our cookery schools are so much more than places to get your hands dirty – they are places to connect with new and old friends over great food and wine. We think Borough Market is the perfect place to explore local cuisine and bring the best of Spain and Portugal to the table.”
