Sosban restaurant blames closure on "rising costs"
The site, which was opened in a grade II listed pump house by former Welsh rugby players Stephen Jones and Dwayne Peel in 2011, shut its doors on 3 February.
Sosban was named The Good Food Guide Readers’ Restaurant of the Year for Wales in 2013, and was recommended in the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2019 – though it did not hold a star.
Executive chef Andrew Sheridan, who represented Wales on the BBC’s Great British Menu in 2018, and the restaurant’s directors said in a statement: “[We] are sorry to announce that after long consideration and despite best efforts we are closed from Sunday 3rd February 2019.
“We would like to thank all our loyal customers and suppliers for the support and cherished friendships they have provided us since we opened in July 2011. It has been a privilege to be a part of the community and we greatly appreciate the years you have allowed us to serve you.
“The decision to close has been a very difficult and heartbreaking one to make given the considerable effort that has been made over many years, but regrettably, in the face of rising costs associated with running the restaurant, some things are just not meant to be.”
Sosban offered both a five and seven-course tasting menu, as well as a la carte options.
