Corbin & King is planning to launch a new brand in Soho – “a high quality and good value fish restaurant”, BigHospitality's sister site MCA has learnt.

The Minor Hotels-owned restaurant operator has submitted a planning application to Westminster City Council to open a restaurant at 1-8 Bateman Buildings (incorporating 55 Greek Street).

Previous applications had been granted for the site, in 2015 and 2016, to use the lower ground, ground and first floor levels of the buildings for the location of two restaurants.

Subsequent to these permissions being granted the landlord has now selected Corbin & King as the operator for the site, according to the application.

However, the plans by Corbin & King are for a single restaurant, rather than two, – spanning 998 sq m - across the ground and first floors, with space for 241 covers.

According to the application, there are also plans for a bar on the ground floor, which would only be used by diners before, during or after a meal “as it is very much a restaurant concept that is proposed”.

Corbin & King was acquired by Minor Hotels, from Graphite Capital, in a £58m deal in December 2017. The operator is soon to open its ninth restaurant in London – Soutine, in St John’s Wood.

It had been due to open last year, but the launch date was pushed back to early 2019. Corbin & King opened its first UK site outside London last year, at Bicester Village. It is a spin-off of The Wolseley, called Café Wolseley.
