Mowgli lines up second Manchester restaurant
The expanding company, founded in Liverpool in 2014 by former barrister and Indian cookery teacher Nisha Katona, has taken a site at the University Green retail and leisure development.
The 100-cover restaurant will open seven days a week from 21 January and offer ‘fuss-free’ Indian cooking with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options.
Katona – who received an MBE for services to the food industry in the 2019 New Years’ Honours - designs all the restaurants herself, and described the upcoming opening as ‘Apple shop meets Indian night market’.
“Mowgli is all about the smash and grab of fresh, light Indian food,” says Katona. “This makes it perfect brain food for the exacting appetites of the university students and staff.”
University Green is a retail and leisure development created in partnership between property company Bruntwood and the University of Manchester.
It will be home to the seventh site for Mowgli, which has restaurants in Liverpool, Birmingham, Oxford, Nottingham, and one in Manchester’s Corn Exchange.
The company secured £3.45m funding towards its growth from private equity company Foresight Group in 2017.
It was voted Best Value Restaurant Operator - 20 sites and under, at Restaurant magazine's R200 Awards in December.
