MEATailer has closed its MEATliquor Brixton restaurant after five years at the Market Row site in south London.

The restaurant served its last burger and on Sunday (6 Jan) before closing for business.

In an Instagram post, the company said it ‘adored Brixton” and that it was “only farewell for now, not forever”. The company also said it “actively looking for another site”.

The Market Row restaurant initially started out life as the fried chicken and sours focused Wishbone, which Meatailer launched with the concept’s co-founder William Leigh in November 2012.

The concept was then tweaked and rebranded as CHICKENliquor in 2014 before becoming a MEATliquor proper at the end of 2017.

The restaurant is one of two MEATliquors that will have closed within the first two months of the year, with the brand’s first permanent location and flagship site due to close next month.

MEATliquor W1, which is located on the ground floor of a Marylebone car park in 2011, is closing to make way for a development from Shiva Hotel Group. The site had initially only been intended to stay open for a couple of years.

BigHospitality understands that the group is looking to relocate the restaurant to a new site close by.
