Polpo team open first airport Spuntino at Heathrow
The launch at Heathrow Terminal 3 is the pair’s first project with transport hub specialist TRG Concessions, after signing an exclusive franchise agreement earlier this year.
The airside restaurant features a doughnut machine, roller skating hosts, and newly developed breakfast and takeaway menus to eat on a flight.
Dishes include truffled egg toast; mac ‘n’ cheese; and a spicy vegan jackfruit burger. There’s also a dedicated children’s offer at £5.95 for a main dish and drink.
Nick Ayerst, managing director of TRG Concessions, says the restaurant offers a ‘truly unique’ experience for the airport.
The original Spuntino restaurant opened in Soho in 2011. A second launched in Bristol in 2017, but closed earlier this year.
The Heathrow restaurant marks the first foray in to transport hubs for Beatty and Norman, who also shut their Venetian-inspired Polpo restaurants in Exeter and Bristol, as well as the Ape & Bird pub in London’s Cambridge Circus this year.
The team currently operate both a Spuntino and Polpetto restaurant in Soho, alongside five London Polpo’s and one in Brighton.
A number of restaurant brands including Grind, Leon, Crussh and Vapiano have signed deals to expand in to transport hub locations this year amid rising costs on the high street. BrewDog also opened its first airport bar in Edinburgh last month.
