Honest Burgers confirms first Brighton restaurant
The 30-strong burger brand will move in to the central Brighton location in early 2019 after buying out the lease.
Pascere, which received a rave review from then Guardian restaurant critic Marina O’Loughlin after its 2017 opening, announced last week it will close its doors on 15 December with plans to relaunch in a new location.
The move marks something of a homecoming for Honest Burgers’ founders Tom Barton and Philip Eeles, who met while working at Brighton’s Riddle and Finns restaurant.
“After a few too many pints at The Bath Arms, we decided to go into business together,” says Barton.
“The first burgers we ever served were at the Brighton Food Festival in 2010. We sold out of chips on the first day and spent all night making more - we were hooked. Returning to Brighton feels like a homecoming and we couldn’t be more excited.”
Honest Burgers opened its first location in Brixton village in 2011 and has since expanded across London and to Cambridge, Bristol and Reading.
The group was named Best Restaurant Operator - over 20 sites at Restaurant magazine's R200 awards last week.
A growing number of major burger brands have moved down from London to open in Brighton over the last few years, including Patty & Bun, Smashburger, and Five Guys. Meatliquor launched its first restaurant outside the capital in the Sussex city in 2013.
