Soho's The Duck and Rice is looking to expand in London and overseas
The company believes there are growth opportunities for the brand in other areas of London as well in the Nordic countries, Europe and the Middle East, and says it is in talks for its first overseas licensing deal.
The Duck and Rice was launched as a ‘Chinese gastropub’ by Alan Yau in 2015 on the former site of The Endurance pub, but is now under new management. The restaurant serves a range of dim sum and chop suey dishes as well as rice, noodles, house duck and a range of monthly specials, including prawn and Chinese chive dumplings (£5.50) and big-ticket dishes such as lobster crispy noodle (£45).
It also serves Pilsner Urquell tank beer and has strong beer cocktails and tea lists.
“The Duck and Rice appeals to all age groups and especially to millennials who love its great food, popular local pub atmosphere and sense of fun,” says director Ted Kennedy.
“Going forward we expect good sales growth, great margins and robust costs and so we are now ready to push the button on the licensing opportunities available to us.
“We see opportunities to grow a licensing platform in London, the Nordics, mainland Europe and the Middle East and are now actively assessing potential licensing partners with local geographic knowledge to develop and grow our brand with us.”
