Chef Simon Rogan is to open his first two overseas restaurants in Hong Kong early next year.

Rogan will launch Aulis, his chef’s table and development kitchen concept, in the busy Causeway Bay retail area in January 2019.

It will be followed by the opening of Roganic, described as a ‘city-centric take’ on his farm-to-table concept, in late February 2019.

Aulis Hong Kong will seat just 12 diners and offer an eight to ten course ‘experimental menu’ that will act as a test-bed for dishes before they reach Rogan’s main restaurants.

Roganic is to open as a ‘complimentary venue’ to Aulis, serving natural wine and ‘fresh, foraged ingredients’.

Both sites will join Rogan’s five-strong UK restaurant portfolio, which includes two-Michelin-starred L’Enclume and one-starred Rogan & Co in the Lake District.

The chef opened a permanent iteration of his former Roganic pop-up in London in 2017, and it won its first Michelin star in the 2019 edition of the red book.

He also has two Aulis sites, in Cartmel and London. All the UK restaurants make use of ingredients from Rogan’s own Cumbria-based farm.

A number of big-name British chefs have jetted round the world to open restaurants in Hong Kong in recent years. Gordon Ramsay, Jason Atherton, and Tom Aikens have all expanded their overseas empires to the region.

Two notable Hong Kong restaurants have also made the return trip, with Michelin-starred Duddell's and Serge et le Phoque both opening in London last year.
