Michael Caines to open a restaurant in Exmouth in 2020

The Lympstone Manor owner, who grew up in Exeter, will open a restaurant with a bar and café area as part of the proposed new water sports centre for Exmouth.

The casual dining restaurant will be a departure from his Michelin-starred hotel restaurant, and will have a menu ‘to suit all tastes’ using locally sourced produce, including fish from the Exmouth docks and meat from local farms. It will feature an upstairs terrace as well as a dog-friendly café serving a lighter menu and serving homemade ice-creams, locally roasted coffee and healthy takeaway snacks.

The restaurant will be part of Exeter-based developer Grenadier’s scheme, which intends to transform Exmouth waterfront into a new water sports facility for the community. It will take an environmentally responsible approach to waste and water efficiency, as well as the heating, cooling and lighting of the building, to be as sustainable as possible.

“The waterfront development will play a pivotal role in the future and regeneration of Exmouth and I’m really excited to be a part of something that celebrates all that this wonderful coastline has to offer,” says Caines.

“We’ll be using local ingredients to showcase the great variety of high-quality food and drink that this area has right on its doorstep, with a menu that offers something for everyone.”

The proposed water sports centre for Exmouth will provide training and changing facilities alongside an outdoor events space, restaurants and six retail beach units. Work is due to begin on site in late summer 2019 and the restaurant is expected to open in the summer of 2020.

“The restaurant will offer somewhere for people to visit all year round – whether they’re dog walkers, cyclists, scenery seekers or have been out enjoying water sports activities and want somewhere to relax, refresh and refuel,” says Peter Quincey, director of Grenadier.
