Tattu puts its mark on Birmingham with scheduled 2019 opening
Founders Adam and Drew Jones plan to open the new restaurant on Barwick Street in January 2019, and it will join Leeds and Manchester sites in the Tattu portfolio.
Occupying a space below the Grosvenor Suite at the newly refurbished luxury hotel The Grand, Tattu Birmingham will serve the restaurant’s classic evening menu of Asian dim sum and sharing dishes.
Executive chef Andrew Lassetter’s signature Tattu dishes such as caramel soy beef fillet; and saffron black cod will be carried over to the menu at the Birmingham site.
A number of new menu items will also be added, including chilli and sesame roasted scallops with Chinese sausage, crushed edamame and mint; and Asian pear crumble with green apple, almond and pink custard.
A lunchtime ‘Taste of Tattu’ premium express menu will also be available, offering two or three courses of the restaurant’s best-selling small plates priced at £23 or £28.
The split-level restaurant will have its own design identity, featuring marble flooring, cut-out panelling and cuboid light boxes. Mirror features and oriental flower murals, inspired by “the Chinese philosophy of Yin Yang”, will tie the design in with that of the group’s other sites.
“Each Tattu restaurant has its own identity and style that takes customers on a sensory journey as they dine,” says Adam Jones, managing director.
“We recognise the historic importance of The Grand to the city and wanted to reflect that in our concept. Being situated underneath the stunning Grosvenor Suite we knew we would need to carefully consider our restaurant layout and design. We are hoping to create a restaurant that complements the outstanding features of the space, the results should be beautiful and deliver a unique customer experience that is exclusive to Birmingham.”
Tattu launched its first site in Manchester Spinningfields in 2015, followed by a Leeds opening in the Bond Court development in June 2017.
