Michelin is to announce the new starred restaurants entering its 2019 Great Britain and Ireland guide later today (1 October).

The stars will be revealed at a live event held at the BFI IMAX in London at 4.30pm this afternoon.

Speaking ahead of the awards Rebecca Burr, director of the Guide’s local edition, said the selection was set to be “very strong this year”.

Michelin has already announced the 27 new Bib Gourmands - awarded to restaurants serving three courses for under £28 - which will enter the 2019 guide, including Cin Cin in Brighton and Josh Eggleton's Root and Tare in Bristol.

Last year 17 new one-star restaurants were added to the red book, ranging from high-end sites such as Lympstone Manor in Devon to more casual locations such as London’s A. Wong.

The capital was home to the only new two-star entry, Claude Bosi at Bibendum, while nine-seater sushi bar The Araki in Mayfair was the first new three-star restaurant announced in the UK in seven years.

Fifteen restaurants also lost their stars in 2018, including surprising deletions for Alimentum in Cambridge and The Wild Rabbit in Kingham.
