The chef and co-owner Nicola Jack will shut Restaurant Mark Greenaway on 22 September after five years of trading.
Details of their next project are being kept under wraps for now, but it is set to open in the Scottish capital either later this year or early 2019.
“It’s time for a new challenge, and so we are in the process of developing a completely new concept,” says Greenaway.
“Though we will be using the same team and suppliers that have contributed so much to the success of Restaurant Mark Greenaway, the new venture will feel completely different. Our intention is to boldly challenge the concept of fine dining in the heart of Edinburgh.”
The chef's eponymous restaurant opened in 2013 and has since won three AA rosettes and recommendation in the Michelin Guide. It was ranked 95th in Restaurant magazine's list of the top 100 restaurants in the UK this year.
Greenaway made headlines earlier this year when he introduced a booking fee after the restaurant was hit by 450 no shows and cancellations in just one month last year. He said at the time it was “simply unsustainable for our small restaurant”.
The site's final month will see it serve up some of its most popular dishes from the last five years.
“Naturally we are sad to be closing the North Castle Street site, but at the same time Nicola, myself and the rest of the team are all very much looking forward to the future,” says Greenaway.
“Business, and particularly the restaurant business, moves quickly, and we are hugely excited to reveal what’s coming next.”
