A Camden market-inspired restaurant concept has opened at Stansted Airport comprising a deli, bar and changing menu influenced bypopular London street food vendors.

Travel hospitality operator SSP launched the 350-cover Camden Bar & Kitchen at the airport earlier this month, and it forms part of the first phase of the airport’s £600m transformation.

Spanning two storeys, the space offers an upstairs bar and a ground level grab’n’go deli.

The menu, heavily inspired by Camden’s eclectic food offering, includes classic British dishes such as fish and chips; steak egg and chips; and a Full English breakfast, alongside double-stacked American-inspired burgers; Thai curries; Mexican nachos; and south-Western hickory half chicken with slaw.

The restaurant has launched with several menu sections dedicated to Baba G’s, the first London street food vendor to take the guest slot on the menu.

Its Indian-inspired street food dishes include the ‘crazy lamb jalfrezi’ burger, with mango pulp, tamarind chutney, coriander slaw and an onion bhaji; crispy chicken tikka burger in a black onion seed bun; butternut squash, chickpea and lentil curry with poppadoms; poppadom nachos; and masala fries.

Interiors are heavily inspired by the market’s industrial aesthetic, including a green central stairway and sign written in the same font as on the London market’s famous bridge.

“This is a very exciting time for the airport as the first phase of our £600 million transformation of the passenger experience begins to take shape, new long-haul services to Dubai, USA and Canada launch and all in a year when we will be London’s fastest growing airport,” says Ben Green, retail director for London Stansted Airport.

“This fantastic new concept recreates the buzz and flavours of London’s most iconic food market and we are extremely proud to offer millions of passengers the chance to enjoy what we’re sure will prove to be an extremely popular destination before taking to the sky from Stansted.”

This year has seen airports move to introduce more exciting dining options for customers, such as Soho's dive bar Spuntino, which will launch in UK airports this year through a franchise agreement with TRG Concessions.
