Morty & Bob's to bring its Instafamous grilled cheese to Coal Drops Yard

Sandwich specialist Morty & Bob’s will join the operator lineup at Coal Drops Yard when it launches this autumn.

It will sit alongside the likes of Barrafina; Casa Pastor; The Drop; and Alain Ducasse’s Le Chocolat at the Heatherwick Studio-designed development in Kings Cross, set to open on 26 October.

Having begun as a street food operation, Morty & Bob’s now operates at Hackney’s Netil House and at Feast canteen in White City.

Alongside its sandwiches, it serves small dishes including the likes of parmesan truffle fries; burrata with pea shoots and sourdough; and calamari with saffron aioli.

The brand’s oft-Instagrammed grilled cheese sandwiches include varieties such as mushroom and truffle; and nduja and salami.

Other sandwiches include a club sandwich of fried chicken, lettuce, pickled cucumber, baconnaise, tomato, and egg; and a cod fish finger sandwich with mushy peas and tartar sauce on brioche.

Built in the 1850s, Coal Drops Yard in King’s Cross takes its name from the drops that received and sorted coal as it arrived from the north of England.

According to the developer, King’s Cross is the largest mixed-use development in single ownership in central London for more than 150 years.

Restaurants already trading nearby include Dishoom; Caravan; Granary Square Brasserie; Granger & Co; and Vinoteca.
