The launch will be the fifth UK restaurant for founders Sachin and Uzma Pattani, adding to the duo’s 300-strong portfolio of global Thai Express sites.
Menu items include the likes of tom yum soup; green, red and yellow Thai curry; basil fried rice; Thai fried rice; battered chicken in a sweet and sour sauce with vegetables; peanut satay stir fry; spicy cashew salad; pad Thai; summer rolls; papaya salad; and ‘Thairacha’ spicy chicken wings.
Interiors by design agency Faber will see a street-food style open kitchen comprising two wok stations for customers either dining in or ordering for take away. Inspired by Bangkok’s contrasting architecture, interiors will include both wood and greenery as well as concrete and metal.
Thai Express launched its first UK site in 2012, and currently only operates one other site outside the capital, in Thurrock.
It will join the likes of Comptoir Libanais; Mowglil; and new soul food concept Holy Moly Macaroni at the site, which is becoming an attractive launch location for independent and quick-service brands.
“We are delighted to welcome Thai Express to the growing dining line-up at Grand Central,” says Sarah Fox, head of restaurants and leisure at Grand Central’s property manager, Hammerson.
“The new opening adds to the international cuisine available, making this one of the city’s most exciting dining destinations in terms of choice and variety.”
