The Quality Chop House launches Quality Wines next door
Clerkenwell restaurant The Quality Chop House will open a wine bar in its adjoining wine shop next week.

As reported by BigHospitality earlier this month the restaurant, which is part of the Woodhead Restaurant Group, intends to widen its daytime and late night offer at its Clerkenwell premises.

Quality Wines will offer over 200 wines, selected by Gus Gluck who takes his experience from four years at Vinoteca; a recent role at Mac Forbes winery in Australia’s Yarra Valley; and time as manager of Neighbourhood Wine in Melbourne.

From Tuesday through to Saturday the wine bar will be open, and guests will be able to choose bottles from the shelves to drink for £15 corkage.

The space will only operate as a bar in the evenings, and will be a shop and café during the daytime.

A menu of small plates, selected by head chef Shaun Searley, will be available to accompany the wines, including signature dishes from The Quality Chop House such as smoked cod’s roe; pork pies; cheese; and charcuterie. In Autumn, Searley plans to develop a “more ambitious” list of small plates.

Throughout the year, Gluck will be inviting some of the winemakers whose wines are stocked at the shop to come in and meet with the customers.

Earlier this year The Quality Chop House extended its retail offering and took over the shop next door to create a new café. The site was previously home to Noble Fine Liquor, the parent company of Clapton wine bar P Franco.

Reopened in 2012, The Quality Chop House has existed as a restaurant on Farringdon Road since 1869. It offers modern dishes based around premium British ingredients, and features an in-house butcher and shop where guests can buy the dishes and cuts served in the restaurant.

Woodhead Restaurant Group also runs Fitzrovia restaurants Clipstone and Michelin-starred Portland.
