Restaurant Eats Out: Covent Garden

Restaurant magazine’s latest Restaurant Eats Out event included four very different restaurants and highlighted the eclecticism of Covent Garden’s booming eating out scene.

Jidori

Brett Redman and Natalie Lee-Joe’s second Jidori has an extended menu and its very own karaoke room. On Catherine Street, the multi-storey restaurant majors on yakiroti skewers and small plates, including tsukune (minced chicken with egg yolk) and katsu curry scotch egg. The drinks list is as carefully considered as the food, featuring craft beers and sake alongside creative cocktails.

Frog by Adam Handling

Adam Handling’s flagship serves creative British dishes with international influences including butternut agnolotti with frozen foie gras; tuna and beef tartare with kimichi; and celeriac with date and lime. The dining room is a masterclass in contemporary stripped back luxury and the drinks list is every bit as creative as the food offering.

La Goccia

La Goccia is one of the two restaurants in Petersham Nurseries expansive yet beautifully put together new Covent Garden space. Dishes are prepared in the open kitchen where the wood-fired oven and grill add an element of theatre to the experience. The menu is centred around cicchetti, fresh pasta and grilled dishes, including lamb’s liver and salsa verde.

Temper 3

Neil Rankin’s latest restaurant specialises in pizza, ragu and vermouth. Diners can choose from Detroit deep-dish pizzas or ‘bar style’ thin crust pizzas, with a variety of nontraditional toppings and cheesy crusts. Ragu options include goat, game and pork. The drinks menu has an extensive selection of spritzers, americanos and negronis.
