Gary Usher prepares to launch 24-hour restaurant crowdfund
The entrepreneur will begin the Kickstarter campaign at 9pm this evening (30 May) in a bid to fund the launch of his latest bistro Pinion in Prescot.
Pinion will open on the site of a former Betfred betting shop in the town centre, where Usher says trade has “died off” following the opening of a nearby shopping centre.
He hopes the restaurant will help with the regeneration of the area, which will also see the opening of a £20m Shakespearean theatre on the site of a former car park in 2020.
“I don’t think anyone would swerve the fact that there’s not much going on,” Usher told BigHospitality in March.
“Without sounding like I’m trying to save the world, because I’m not, and without sounding like I’m some kind of saviour to the area, because I don’t think I am, I do think that it would be quite nice to be part of what they’re already trying to do, which is regenerate the area.
“I wouldn’t be doing this for a business decision. I’m doing it because I think it’s a nice thing to do and it would be nice to be part of something.”
Pinion will serve a similar style of bistro dishes as Usher's other restaurants, including classic tarts, freshly baked bread and a whole duck to share.
It comes a year after the chef crowdfunded nearly £209,000 towards the opening of his Liverpool bistro Wreckfish.
He first opened Sticky Walnut in Chester in 2011 and has since crowdfunded over £350,000 to launch Hispi in Chorlton, Burnt Truffle in Heswall and Wreckfish.
