Market Halls eye regional debut

Pitt Cue Co. restaurateur Simon Anderson and investor Andy Lewis Pratt are hoping to bring their food hall concept to York.

A spokesperson for Market Halls has confirmed that the company has applied for a premises license for Stonebow House, a mixed use development in the city centre which is currently being transformed to comprise luxury apartments, penthouses and retail and leisure space.

“This will be for a food hall providing several kitchens with operators from the lively independent restaurant scene in York, and further information will be announced in due course,” they said.

Anderson and Lewis Pratt will launch three market halls in central and west London this year, aiming to turn unused public spaces into food halls.

The team told BigHospitality’s sister publication MCA that they have plans to open 10-12 Market Halls altogether, including regional locations such as York and Liverpool.

The first Market Hall to open launches in Fulham next week, in the former ticket hall at Fulham Broadway station.

The second opening, in summer 2018, will be in the arcaded bays opposite Victoria station on the site of former superclub Pacha.

The final and largest market opening will be in the West End, in the former BHS building near Oxford Circus. It is billed as being the largest food hall in the UK.
