The lowdown: the Royal wedding
Earlier this month, Kensington Palace confirmed on Twitter that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will marry on May 19, 2018, but what does it all mean for restaurants?

How romantic. What we really want to know is will we get the day off work like we did for the last royal wedding?
This year, in a break from tradition the wedding falls on a weekend. So sadly we won’t get an extra day off. That said, pub opening hours are expected to be extended to 1am, as they were for Willian's wedding and the Queen’s 90th​ birthday.

That’s considerate. What else is going on? Besides all the flogging of commemorative teatowels and mugs.
STK steak restaurant is selling a special ‘Royal Affair’ doughnut, celebrating the wedding as well as another special date for the diary: National Doughnut Week. The limited edition giant doughnut weighs in at 900g, and combines traditional UK ingredients with sweet US inspired flavours, as a nod to Meghan and Harry’s nationalities. How sweet…

Is there anything a bit less… sickly?
Yes, trendy vegan restaurant by CHLOE is working with Deliveroo to mark the event by introducing one of the bride-to-be’s favourite dishes to its menu. Normally consisting of chips, cheese and gravy, the Canadian dish is being given a “millennial makeover”, and will comprise air baked fries, topped with mozzarella cheese made from cashews; ‘chorizo’ made from seitan; vegan gravy; and chipotle aioli.

What’s that got to do with the wedding, again?
Megan Markle loves poutine. And she loves by CHLOE. It’s confirmed as being definitely true, because she did a photoshoot for her blog at one of its New York sites. Also, according to a spokesperson, the new dish fits into any soon to be princess’ ‘week day vegan’ diet.

Right. Won’t she be a duchess, not a princess?
Don’t be pedantic. It’s very complicated. Moving on and out of London, The Royal Yacht Britannia in Scotland, where Harry spent his childhood summers will be serving a royal-couple inspired menu in its Royal Deck Tea Room. It will include a roast chicken sandwich (in homage to the roast chicken Harry and Meghan were cooking when Harry proposed); a lemon and elderflower cake as a nod to the couple’s choice of wedding cake; and a Negroni, which is Meghan’s favourite drink.

Chicken sarnies and Negronis? Sounds like my kind of wedding dinner.
There will also be complimentary chocolate delicacies, if you’re not on the royal budget. 

Is there anything child-friendly? The kids are a bit young for gin.
The Lanesborough is putting on a new series of children’s afternoon tea events, with the first one on the 13 May. It will be held in the hotel’s Belgravia room, and will have children’s outfitters La Stupenderia and chocolatiers Artisan du Chocolate on hand. For children aged four and up, for £25 parents can arrange for them to be met with a red carpet, given a crown or tiara by a butler, and enjoy an interactive children’s play. They will leave with goodie bags containing chiffon hair ribbons or bow ties and Artisan du Chocolat chocolate dipped teddy bears.

It's a step up from Peppa Pig and a Twix.
The ticket does include champagne and canapes for the parents, if that makes any difference.
