The Lebanese Bakery to bring its pizza-style flatbreads to the UK this spring

Beirut-based restaurant The Lebanese Bakery will make its international debut in Covent Garden this spring.

Founded by brothers Samer and Bassam Chamoun, the restaurant launched in Beirut in 2016 and is famed for its Lebanese flatbreads known as ‘manousheh’.

Similar to pizza, manousheh consists of a dough, baked in an Arabic basalt rock oven, and sprinkled with toppings including a mixture of thyme and sesame known as za’atar; cheese; chopped tomatoes; and meat.

Also available will be a breakfast version of the dish, comprising manousheh topped with a baked, sunny side up egg.

Set to launch in May, the restaurant will comprise 20 covers, and will also offer take away and delivery options.

“Manousheh is strongly rooted in our food heritage and tradition so we are thrilled to be able to offer Londoners Lebanese food that is both new and exciting, while remaining authentic to our roots,” say the founders.

The Chamoun brothers both work in real estate and architecture alongside running The Lebanese Bakery, with Bassam specialising in the development of local and regional restaurants.

The opening will follow a spate of Lebanese-influenced launches in London, including Middle Eastern based restaurant group Caramel which is making its UK debut this month, and Abd El Wahab which opened in Belgravia in March.
