Bundobust and Mowgli enter the NRB Top 50 power list 2018
The full list, which recognises the most influential operators in the North of England, was announced at the Northern Restaurant & Bar show in Manchester today (20 March).
Simon Potts, MD of The Alchemist, received one of three special awards. The cocktail and restaurant group was founded in Manchester in 2010 and is now at 10 sites.
There were also awards for Chris Ure and Martin Wolstencroft of Arc Inspirations, who were recognised for building a hospitality empire “steadily and organically, without the need for significant outside funding”.
Jobe Ferguson and Ross Mackenzie, of Black Dog and Liars Club - which runs nine bars, pubs and restaurants in Manchester and Liverpool – received an award for their “unique impact” on the region’s food and drink landscape.
The founders of Indian street food brands Bundobust and Mowgli made the longer top 50 list. Both concepts were founded in Leeds and Liverpool respectively in 2014, and are planning further growth.
“Despite tremors in the casual dining market our NRB Top 50 entrants have shown no shortage of ambition,” says Thom Hetherington, CEO of organisers Holden Media.
“Almost every one of the fifty has grand plans for expansion and new sites, and I am sure that 2018/19 will see a “rise of the indies” which will play to the strengths of our great Northern operators.”
