Alastair Little to launch soup delivery service this month
The chef plans to expand By Alastair Little outside of west London and the rest of the UK by growing the business through local hubs.
Little will be taking online orders for spring soups later this month, following continuing customer demand for the products he used to sell at the now-closed Tavola deli.
The offerings will be fresh, additive free and delivered directly to customers’ homes.
“With the public appetite for food with a known provenance, I’m surprised retailers haven’t considered setting up small scale kitchens on or near their superstores to cook wholesome and tasty food locally,” little writes on his blog.
“For ‘by Alastair Little’ we’ll be cooking on a small-scale using the best ingredients in season – without adulteration or artifice. The recipes will be favourites from my restaurants and Tavola range.”
Little, who is widely credited with the modernisation of British cuisine, was, until recently, selling his fresh soups and sauces at Tavola in Notting Hill.
The chef held roles at high-profile restaurants including fine-dining French restaurant L’Escargot, before setting up his own restaurants including Simpsons in Putney and Le Routier in Suffolk.
He opened his eponymous Frith Street restaurant in 1985, which was awarded the Times Restaurant of the Year award in 1993, and later opened another under the same name in Notting Hill.
Following a dispute and protracted financial negotiations, Little left both restaurants to his former partner, who retained the right to use his name.
