50 Kalo di Ciro Salvo is expected to open on the former site of Bianco 43 in Northumberland Avenue at the end of May.
Owned by pizza expert Ciro Salvo, and co-founder Alessandro Guglielmini, the new restaurant will serve a similar menu to its Naples flagship.
The brand’s signature pizzas will be served alongside a selection of side dishes including potato croquettes stuffed with sausage and cheese; and French fries. All dishes are made using Italian and Campanian ingredients including tomatoes; fiordilatte; and mozzarella, alongside wines and Italian craft beers.
The 2100sq ft site will seat 100 covers, and will feature a wood burning oven. As at the Naples flagship, "Vera pizza Neapolitan” will be printed on the front window of the restaurant.
"In the coming months I will alternate between Italy and England: the pizza makers in the new premises will be trained and educated on the know-how of 50 Kalò: the formula will not change," says owner Salvo.
“The idea of opening a pizzeria in the United Kingdom is the only one that I have always really cultivated in these years and now is the right time."
The Naples outpost of 50 Kalo is located on the Sannazaro Piazza. A mix of pizza-makers' slang and Neapolitan dialect, the name of the restaurant translates as 'good mixture’, and is in reference to the specialist pizza dough the restaurant makes.
Author of Where to Eat Pizza, The Experts’ Guide to the World’s Best Pizza, Daniel Young, describes 50 Kalo de Ciro Salvo as “one of Naples' – and the world's – truly great pizzerias.”
