Amber is the latest operator to choose the East End to make its debut

A new Middle Eastern small-plates restaurant is opening in East London at the end of the month.

Open from 7am-11pm, Amber, founded by Murat Kilic and Pierre Aprin, will launch on 29 January on Piazza Walk.

The open kitchen will be fitted with grill stations and a specialist oven, where chefs will cook for authentic but ‘modernised’ Middle-Eastern dishes.

Breakfast options will comprise a selection of ‘breads and spreads’, including simit with mango and honey butter; and Israeli pitta with garlic and chilli peanut butter. Savoury options of whipped feta with dukkah; burnt aubergine with crushed olives; and salt baked salmon on bazlama with harissa hollandaise and gin pickled cucumbers will also be available.

The lunch menu will include a selection of pide (boat-shaped flatbread) with toppings like aubergine, basil, goat’s cheese and roasted peppers, alongside a selection of salads.

The evening menu will offer the likes of seabass with fennel; stuffed mussels with rice and herbs; crispy chicken with pickled sharonfruit and slaw; and fried cauliflower, shallots and green tahini.

Middle Eastern cuisine is proving increasingly popular in the capital, with operators including The Good Egg and Berber & Q now operating at multiple sites. Bahraini restaurant Villa Mama’s chose to make its UK debut in Chelsea last year.

The East End of London has become an attractive location for new openings, with regeneration of areas like the Old Spitalfields Market seeing a wave of new restaurants appear, including Gul & Sepoy and Shikumen, and VQ Aldgate.
