Madame Wong could become "a great delivery brand"
The restaurant, which is due to open in spring next year, is being billed as a premium casual all-day offer serving creative interpretations of classic Chinese dishes. As well as being a standalone restaurant, Madame Wong could become a delivery brand in the future, says Chris Miller, founder of White Rabbit Fund, which is an investor in Madame Wong as well as restaurant brands Kricket and Island Poke.
“I’m interested in delivery,” says Miller. “Will we open five Madame Wongs a year? Probably not. But if we get it right as the flagship there is nothing stopping us creating a great delivery brand from it.”
The market for high quality delivery food is growing, driven by the likes of Deliveroo but also through the creation of delivery-only concepts. Motu Indian Kitchen, the delivery-only Indian brand from JKS Restaurants, the company behind Gymkhana and Trishna as well as a backer of Bao and Bubbledogs, now has four sites in London, with a fifth due to open in Swiss Cottage on 3 January.
Miller says that he would like Madame Wong to “emulate what Dishoom has done for Indian food but with Chinese” with an all-day offer. He says prices will be around £30-£35 a head at dinner, less for lunch.
