Tom Sellers to open London restaurant '13'

Tom Sellers is planning to open another restaurant in the capital, this time ‘aimed towards the youth of London’.

The chef-patron of Restaurant Story in Bermondsey told the Evening Standard that his new restaurant will be called 13 in reference to the numbers one and three he has tattooed on his fingers and which mark the dates that his mother and father were born.

Speaking to the Standard, Sellers said: “It will be 100% mine, and it will be in London. All I can tell you is it will be called 13 and it will be aimed towards the youth of London, and not just in food; in art, in culture, in music.”

The ‘100%’ comment refers to Restaurant Ours, in Kensington, which Sellers opened in May 2016, backed by the Reuben Brothers. Sellers was the restaurant’s culinary advisor, working with launch head chef Daniel Phippard, but stepped down from the role at the end of June this year.

The chef told the Standard that he struggled to work in a business partnership at Ours. “What everyone learned really quickly, including the owners, was me being involved brought more problems than solutions,” he said.

This summer Sellers said he was also in final negotiations on an as-yet-unnamed project in Asia, but no further details have been released.
