The group has signed up to take two sites in the upcoming Hudson Yards development on Manhattan’s West Side, which is being co-curated by US chef Thomas Keller.
Rhubarb's first project across the pond will be a 5,800 sq ft restaurant on the fifth level of the scheme's Shops & Restaurants building.
A second 10,000 sq ft bar, restaurant and events space will occupy two floors of 30 Hudson Yards. The skyscraper is set to be the second tallest office building in New York – dwarfing the Empire State Building - when it is completed in 2019, housing the highest outdoor observation deck in the city.
The restaurants will be the first international sites for the Rhubarb, which is behind London’s Sky Garden, the upcoming Vivi restaurant at the revived Centre Point building, and has teamed up with Eric Chavot to work on a restaurant project at The Royal Albert Hall.
“We have been looking to open in New York for several years now and the Hudson Yards development is incomparable – their commitment to a fully collaborative approach with all of their partners, from retail to food and beverage means this will be the ultimate, united experience,” says P.B Jacobse, CEO of rhubarb.
Rhubarb will be joined at the scheme by fellow UK expats D&D London, who are opening an 11,000 sq ft restaurant at the development, alongside new concepts from chefs David Chang and Keller himself.
