Shaun Rankin "extremely sad" to cut ties with Ormer Jersey
The owners of the Michelin-starred site announced yesterday that they had removed Rankin from the board and were ‘terminating’ their commercial relationship with him.
“Of course, I am extremely sad that after more than 20 years in Jersey I will be leaving this wonderful island,” Rankin said in a statement,
“The newly-formed shareholder group of Ormer Jersey has decided to refocus in a way which is incompatible with my food philosophy and would require me taking a different direction.”
Rankin opened Ormer Jersey in 2013 and it won a Michelin star just four months after opening.
He oversaw the launch of a second restaurant, Ormer Mayfair, at Flemings hotel in London in 2016.
“I shall now be based in London and look forward to continuing my work with the luxury London hotel, Flemings Mayfair,” said Rankin.
BigHospitality understands that the owners of Ormer Jersey are planning to open more restaurants across the UK under the Ormer brand.
They also intend to develop Don Street Deli, which is next door to the Jersey restaurant and was designed by Rankin, in to a new ‘unfussy modern dining experience’.
The existing Jersey restaurant team will remain in place under head chef Lee Smith.
