East London's Del74 join the UK's taco boom with a second site

East London Taco group Del74 is expanding to a second site in Dalston this month, with a host of new menu items.

The 24 November opening will follow a successful summer of pop up residencies for owners Enrique Vivas - creator of Shoreditch’s Boho Mexica - and Jorge Felizardo, who co-launched Taberna Mercado with Nuno Mendes.

The group ran pop up Cantina Del 74 over the summer, and has been confirmed as one of two food vendors at FEAST Bar & Kitchen, opening later this month.

The menu at the new Kingsland High Street location will have a selection of new dishes such as tortas (Mexican sandwiches); new flavours of tacos; tostadas; tamarind and chile morita chicken wings.

Old favourites from the group’s pop ups and original location will still be available, including the Acapulco shrimp cocktail; and cochinica pibil tacos, made with braised pork leg, guacamole and red pickled onion.

From Tuesday to Sunday the restaurant will offer a brunch menu, with Mexican-inspired dishes like huevos rancheros; enfrijoladas; and chipotle cornbread with salmon and avocado.

Tacos are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, with several London taco-only restaurants expanding to become multi-site groups.

Breddos Tacos now operates two restaurants as well as a kiosk at Nuno Mendes’ Spitalfields ‘The Kitchens’, and is expected to join the upcoming Feast Canteen line up in west London.

Shepherd’s Bush based taqueria Killer Tomato also came from a street food background, and recently opened a second restaurant, on London’s Portobello Road.
