In for a penne, in for a pound: Zizzi launches more new vegan items as its meat-free menu sales soar
The restaurant has experienced an increase of 246% across sales of its vegan menu items since the same time last year, whilst in January of this year the rise was only at 150%.
The restaurant, which was the first major chain to add vegan mozzarella to its dishes, has sold more than 166,451 dairy, egg and meat free meals since summer.
The most popular vegan options sold by the brand last year were the vegan pizzas, sales of which more than doubled in the past year, increasing by 104%.
Zizzi has added two new vegan pizzas to the menu – the ‘vegan pepperonata’, with fire roasted peppers, sunblush tomatoes, chillies and pea shoots, and the ‘zucca rustica’ with a mozzarella alternative, roasted butternut squash, balsamic onions and spinach – in response to the findings.
Zizzi was the first major high street chain to launch a fully vegan menu, leading the trend which is now being followed by giants such as Wagamama and Pizza Express.
Gauthier Soho became the first fine dining restaurant to launch a fully vegan tasting menu last year, and Hawksmoor’s little sister Foxlow will be running a vegan menu throughout November.
Zizzi examined the sales data of its vegan dishes as part of its aim to cater for vegans, vegetarians, non-gluten and non-dairy eaters.
“At Zizzi we pride ourselves on creating great dining experiences for all by providing a menu that caters for everyone” says Jo Fawcett, the marketing director at Zizzi.
“We aim to take the stress out of dining to ensure good times for all.”
