Glasgow's charity-focused answer to Street Feast will launch at the end of next month

Dockyard Social will open 30 November at a huge indoor location, with an initiative to offer culinary training to the city’s unemployed and disadvantaged people as well as boosting the city’s street food scene.

The evenings-only project will offer “eleven food concepts- so stalls with bao, tacos, pizza- and four or five bars, changing on a rotational basis” founder Kyle Steel told Glasgow Live.

Steel has likened the project to Dinerama, the Shoreditch outpost of Street Feast.

Since launching its first site in Dalston in 2012 Street Feast has expanded to operate in Canada Water, Battersea, Bermondsey and Lewisham.

The exact venue for the Shoreditch-inspired night market has not been revealed, but Steel and co-founder Chris Steel have confirmed it will have an ‘industrial warehouse’ feel and will be near the city’s Hydro and SECC . It will house a culinary ‘school’, live bands and DJs. 

The line-up of traders will include new concepts as well as Glasgow stalwarts, and each vendor’s food will be ethically sourced.

The team behind the project, Section 33, has a reputation in the city as a long-established pop-up restaurant. Last month, the team held a pop up in the city’s Southside, serving small, high-end plates with many priced around £6.

"Section 33 used to be an occasional licence for selling alcohol at outdoor events but it's also an eviction notice you get from the council if you're going to lose your home” says Steel.

"We chose the name because a big part of this pop-up is to give back to the community and be true to our roots by supporting Glasgow's homeless population.”
