Hail seitan: Hackney's vegan chicken shop to open a Camden site this month

Temple of Seitan has confirmed it will open its second restaurant in North London on 31 January.

The vegan fried chicken shop made the announcement on Twitter, confirming Camden as the location for the new site.

Opening at the end of the month, the new restaurant will be called ‘Temple of Camden’. It will take a unit in the 103 Camley Street mixed purpose development.

The restaurant will be bigger than its east London sister ‘Temple of Hackney’, with indoor seating so diners will not have to sit on the kerb to eat.

Since opening its first branch in January of this year, Temple of Hackney has become renowned for its long queues as a result of its lack of seating.

The restaurant serves vegan ‘junk food’, comprising options such as mac’n’cheese; fried chicken burgers; chicken strips and French fries; buffalo wings; and coleslaw.

Camden has seen a host of new vegan restaurants set up permanent residence in the past year, with the Kerb market housing vegan Indian restaurant SpiceBox as well as meat-free Mexican Club Mexicana.

Temple of Seitan initially traded as a street food business and acquired permanent premises following a year of trade.

This year the restaurant won UK Restaurant of the Year at the vegan festival VegFest.

“Couldn’t have done it without our amazing staff and customers. Thank you. Now we need to open a real restaurant to justify it...” the brand posted on Instagram, before announcing the opening of the new location.
