Mark Birchall to open second restaurant at Moor Hall

Chef Mark Birchall is to launch a second, more casual restaurant at his newly Michelin-starred country house restaurant with rooms Moor Hall.

The Barn will open on the first floor of a converted building adjacent to the main manor house in Aughton, west Lancashire on 25 October.

It comes just seven months after the former L’Enclume chef opened Moor Hall in partnership with owners Andy and Tracey Bell. The restaurant won its first star in the 2018 Michelin Guide last month.

Aaron Harris, former chef at London’s Sixty One Restaurant, will be heading up the kitchen at The Barn in collaboration with Birchall.

The 65-cover dining room will offer a more affordable alternative to Moor Hall’s £65 and £85 menus; with a £23 three-course set lunch, and an evening a la carte selection priced at £12-£33 for a main.

Dishes will include baked scallop, leek and potato; Herdwick lamb, broccoli, whey onions and anchovy; and carrot cake with salted caramel, walnut and gingerbread ice cream.

There will also be cocktails, craft beer and a 50-bin international wine list with 15 available by the glass (from £4), and bottles from £20.

Over the next few months the ground floor of The Barn will also be developed to house a small dairy, bakery, meat-aging and curing room and a mini-brewery.

A statement announcing the launch says the goal is to make the property ‘increasingly self-sufficient and sustainable’.

The Barn will open Wednesday - Saturday for lunch and dinner, and Sundays from 12pm - 7pm.
