Zelman Meats set for St Paul's

Goodman Restaurants is to launch a third restaurant under its Zelman Meats brand in St Paul’s next month.

The group, which offers ribs and steaks priced by weight, is believed to be opening in the site formerly occupied by its sister brand Burger & Lobster on 30 Old Bailey following its closure earlier this year.

The company has updated its website to confirm the restaurant will open in November 2017, and launched a new Twitter account @ZMStPauls.

Menus at Zelman’s Soho site, which launched in 2015, change daily depending on the available cuts, but can include a £32 sirloin steak and smoked short ribs, chateaubriand and sliced picanha priced by weight.

The group, which is named after Goodman founder Misha Zelman, also opened in Harvey Nichols' Knightsbridge store last year, replacing Polpo.

Its expansion comes as Goodman appears to be scaling down its UK Burger & Lobster estate. The group, whose cheapest meat burger starts at £16, reported pre-tax losses of just over £7m in the year to January 2016.

Burger & Lobster has closed regional sites in Bath and Cardiff after putting them on the market in 2016 and also shut its Farringdon restaurant this year.

According to BigHospitality's sister site MCA, the company is targeting overseas expansion with plans for a second Burger & Lobster site in New York and its first in Thailand.
