Beef & Brew launches crowdfunding campaign
Affordable steak restaurant Beef & Brew has launched a crowdfunding campaign to open a second London site.

Co-founders Jessica Simmons and Daniel Nathan are aiming to raise £250,000 on investment platform Seedrs towards the costs.

Simmons, an ex-Murano chef, created the concept with former banker Nathan in 2015 after they worked together on London pop-up Featherblade.

The team say Beef & Brew was launched with a ‘multi-site plan in mind’ and they are currently pursuing a shortlist of locations.

The first restaurant opened in Kentish Town in 2015,​ serving cheaper cuts of meat such as rumps and ribs ‘without the fuss and price tag’.

Its core offering is a £10 hanger steak, and diners can also order a £10 steak and chips or burger and chips during weekday lunchtimes and early evenings, with sides such as brisket jam nuggets and poutine with chips, gravy and beer cheese.

Since opening, the restaurant has served over 40,000 meals, around 500 customers a week.

"[The restaurant is] quality and affordable, but it’s also interesting: we pay particular attention to our sides and accompaniments as people don’t want the same bland repetitive dishes," says Nathan.

"We’ve also got a very strong team, with lots of operational depth, which puts us in a strong position to expand the business.”

Speaking to BigHospitality​ in 2015​ Simmons said the team had 'big plans' for the concept but wanted to avoid creating a 'soulless chain'.

She added that Beef & Brew was designed as a 'neighbourhood restaurant that doesn't break the bank'.
