Parisian noodle specialist Yen chooses the Strand for UK debut

Parisian soba noodle specialist Yen is launching in London this November.

Located in the new 190 Strand development, the Japanese restaurant will serve its buckwheat noodles, which will be handmade daily.

The restaurant’s Parisian counterpart imports buckwheat flour from Japan before grinding it in a stone mill located underneath the restaurant, although it has not been confirmed whether this process will be repeated in London.

The menu for Yen’s London iteration has not yet been confirmed, but the Paris site uses a mixture of Japanese technique and local French ingredients. It is expected to consist of hot and cold soba noodles with choices of meat or vegetarian toppings, sushi, sashimi, tempura and robata dishes.

Yen will boast a cocktail bar in the mezzanine area with outside seating, as well as an open kitchen and sushi counter. For private functions, the site will offer a private dining room, located within the main restaurant.

The restaurant team is yet to be announced, but is said to consist of chefs with expertise in Japanese food, some of whom will have trained at Michelin starred restaurants.

The restaurant was launched in Paris in the fashionable St Germain de Pres district, and is recommended in the Michelin Guide.
