David Muñoz to team up with Hakkasan

Spanish chef David Muñoz is set to bring his elaborate cooking style to Hakkasan later this month.

Muñoz, who opened Street XO in Mayfair in 2016 and runs three-Michelin-starred Diver XO in Madrid, is teaming up with Hakkasan’s executive chef Tong Chee Hwee to launch a limited edition menu.

The dishes will be available at Hakkasan Hanway Place and Hakkasan Mayfair to mark Golden Week, China’s biggest annual national holiday, from 25 September to 22 October.

The new menu will fuse the duo’s Cantonese and Spanish influences, with dishes including tortilla dim sum with truffle and quail egg; and traditional peking duck served with a beetroot pancake, lychee and rose.

Hakkasan and Street XO’s pastry teams are also working together to create a special dessert using sherry, Spanish grapes, citrus and mandarin; and a new £13.50 cocktail inspired by Hakkasan’s signature crispy duck salad.

The partnership marks something of a homecoming for Muñoz, who worked at Hakkasan after he moved to London when he was 21.

The chef, dubbed the ‘enfant terrible’ of Spanish gastronomy, opened Street XO in London in 2016 but the restaurant’s outlandish dishes received a less-than-stellar response from critics.

The limited-edition Hakkasan menu is priced at £88 per person and is available to pre-book only.
